Hello again pretty preps!

I am currently recovering from a tonsillectomy, so please forgive my absence. I did make it out to Panera yesterday with one of my Sorority Sisters, which though much needed and tons of fun, wore me out. I tried napping, but it isn’t working out too well, so I figured I’d write a new post!

In between choking down noodles, puking up pain meds, and eating caramel frappuccinos with a spoon, I finished the scrapbook I was working on.

I thought I would share it with you!

The book itself is all sparkles… and who doesn’t love sparkles? I am planning on adding a pink bow to the front and spelling out Delta Zeta.

I love adding 3D elements to my scrapbooks, because it really makes the page pop. You never need to worry about them falling off because of the page protectors.

This scrapbook is something I want to keep forever, so I made sure to include all of my important moments from this year, such as Big Little Reveal and pictures of my Big with her paddle.

Another thing I love is fun paper. This pink piece is a cut out and the green is actually the back of the next page.

Since I want this scrapbook to encompass my entire time in Delta Zeta I also wanted to include other important things such as my Bid Day Card, Membership Certificate, and letters from my Big, my mom, and myself!

I bought all of my supplies from Michael’s, though when I am at school I get them from AC Moore, because they have a huge selection of papers and stickers. One great thing about Michael’s is that they give you a coupon every time you go into the store! I may or may not have purchased a pink hot glue gun and sparkly glue for it.

Nautical and Nice

Nautical is a classic summer look. I was inspired by this little sketch to make an outfit perfect for a day of shopping or getting lunch with girlfriends.

Gatsby? What Gatsby?

Banner Tuesday

Alright, I saw the Great Gatsby way after it opened, (It was sold out and I seriously almost cried) but I can’t help but make this Tuesday’s tribute in honor of Carey Mulligan and her stunning ensemble at the Great Gatsby Premiere and Cannes Film Festival Opening. It was just as amazing as her performance in the movie!

Carey walked the red carpet in a stunning pale pink Christian Dior Couture gown with Tiffany & Co. jewelry.

The simple lines of the gown and a bold lip really work for her (as does her arm candy, ahem). In a time of outrageous fashion statements it is important to remember that sometimes subtle is the way to stand out.

Here is how I was inspired by this look:

I turned this into a daytime look, but it could easily transfer into the night if you swap out the bag for a clutch and maybe add a couple accessories (or not!).

I started with the Lilly Pulitzer Laidley Dress. It is a little busier than Carey’s sleek pink, but the Lurex Boucle has a shimmer to it that makes it oh so pretty and the pearl embellished neckline is simple and elegant. The white BCBGMAXAZRIA Palace Sandals add even more sophistication. They too have a slight shimmer and the open style with an ankle strap is right on point for summer. I couldn’t resist the Dooney & Bourke Hydrangea Classic Satchel. Someone please get this for me. Seriously. It’s too adorable. Ok, moving on. Simple accessories like these Kate Spade Seaport Pearl Earrings echo the minimalist touches of sparkle on Carey (or you could make your way to Tiffany & Co.’s website and check out their Great Gatsby inspired jewelry). And then, the bold lip. I really don’t think there’s anything wrong with a red lipstick and pink ensemble. It looks great on Carey, so why shouldn’t it look great on you? Try Kate Spade’s Supercalifragilipstick in Adventurous Red. Be bold! Try a lipstick who’s name you have to read really slowly to see if you spelled it correctly!

And We’re Back

Hello Lovely Prepsters!

After a long semester I am finally going to start blogging again. Hopefully this time I will be able to keep it up during the school year. This summer I will have plenty of time to write while I recover from a tonsillectomy and lots to report on after a trip to Italy and a weekend in Montreal.

This past semester has been so exciting. I am awaiting a response to my application to study abroad at the University of Edinburgh in spring 2014, I am now a writing tutor (so hopefully my grammar will have improved ;) ), and I am the Co-Historian of my chapter of Delta Zeta.

I really hope that this summer, and the months to follow will provide me with exciting news and ideas to share with you all!

xoxo,

Kate

New Year…

Hope everyone had a safe and fabulous New Year’s Eve! My time was spent with some great friends and a lot of sparkles.

This week Lilly Pulitzer had her New Year Cheer Sale! I ended up with two skirts, the Callie in Shorely Blue Lucky Seersucker (summer why aren’t you happening???) and the Mimosa in Getaway Garden. I also picked up a half price Delta Zeta whiteboard as part of my future little’s initiation gift; you can never start planning too early, especially when something is on sale.

And guess how much I spent? Fifty-five dollars. Thank you Lilly, from the bottom of my wallet and the back of my closet.

What else has been on my post Christmas list? I recently invested in some Frye Boots, which I will be sure to tell you all about once they arrive, as well as a J. Crew Perfect Shirt in Heather Emerald Gingham (also super on sale).

To be honest, you really don’t have to spend a lot of money to look great. Stores that offer classic looks like J. Crew, Lilly, Brooks Brothers etc. are perfect because their designs don’t change much from year to year. Looking in the sale section isn’t going to hurt your style or your bank account. However, if you find something that you know you’ll wear all the time, will last you forever, and you might just die without (like those Frye boots) go ahead and splurge. My mom always says that spending more on timeless classics is fine, and you can save by getting your trendier pieces at a lower price.

Let It Snow

We’re supposed to get four inches of snow tomorrow here at home! It really makes me wish we had a white Christmas. Here are some of my favorite winter accessories that will keep you toasty while still looking cute.

x-2

Lilly Pulitzer Earmuffs

I received these for Christmas, and while I haven’t worn them out yet, I’ve been sporting them in my house! They are so darn cute, and are super fluffy. They will definitely keep my ears warm, and I love the pop of color it brings to my outfits.

French Connection Pagliaro Snood

Snoods are huge right now, and I love this oversized one. It is chunky and looks so cozy. Pair it with a warm sweater and a down vest for a great look!

Ralph Lauren Belted Gloves

I also received these for Christmas and I absolutely adore them. They are warm and comfortable, and perfect for when I want to dress up my outerwear a bit. Pull them on with a peacoat for date night, or every day to feel extra classy!

New Years Eve is all about having a great time with friends, and no one can deny that wearing some sparkle makes the evening even better!

My favorite combination is black and gold with a dash of red. Word of advice: make sure all of your glitz matches your glimmer. If you are going to have metallic colors, I would suggest bringing your dress when you buy your shoes (or vice versa) to make sure that what you thought was gold isn’t actually pewter!

New Years is also the perfect time to try a bold makeup look. I love red lips, and recently tried out YSL’s lip stain. Tip from the woman at the counter: Make sure you don’t rub your lips together within the first fifteen minutes of applying gloss or stain; it will take out the shine! Number 20, Rouge Enamel, is my favorite, and you can get it exclusively at Sephora.
