Alright, I saw the Great Gatsby way after it opened, (It was sold out and I seriously almost cried) but I can’t help but make this Tuesday’s tribute in honor of Carey Mulligan and her stunning ensemble at the Great Gatsby Premiere and Cannes Film Festival Opening. It was just as amazing as her performance in the movie!
Carey walked the red carpet in a stunning pale pink Christian Dior Couture gown with Tiffany & Co. jewelry.
The simple lines of the gown and a bold lip really work for her (as does her arm candy, ahem). In a time of outrageous fashion statements it is important to remember that sometimes subtle is the way to stand out.
Here is how I was inspired by this look:
I turned this into a daytime look, but it could easily transfer into the night if you swap out the bag for a clutch and maybe add a couple accessories (or not!).
I started with the Lilly Pulitzer Laidley Dress. It is a little busier than Carey’s sleek pink, but the Lurex Boucle has a shimmer to it that makes it oh so pretty and the pearl embellished neckline is simple and elegant. The white BCBGMAXAZRIA Palace Sandals add even more sophistication. They too have a slight shimmer and the open style with an ankle strap is right on point for summer. I couldn’t resist the Dooney & Bourke Hydrangea Classic Satchel. Someone please get this for me. Seriously. It’s too adorable. Ok, moving on. Simple accessories like these Kate Spade Seaport Pearl Earrings echo the minimalist touches of sparkle on Carey (or you could make your way to Tiffany & Co.’s website and check out their Great Gatsby inspired jewelry). And then, the bold lip. I really don’t think there’s anything wrong with a red lipstick and pink ensemble. It looks great on Carey, so why shouldn’t it look great on you? Try Kate Spade’s Supercalifragilipstick in Adventurous Red. Be bold! Try a lipstick who’s name you have to read really slowly to see if you spelled it correctly!
